Sound-O-Picture

When I was in college, I watched a lot of shows on the Food Network.  One of my favorites, of course, was Rachael Ray’s 30 Minute Meals.  I don’t think that she was the first to ever mention it, but Rachael was a big proponent of Smell-O-Vision.  As she blissfully chopped vegetables, seared meat and toasted bread, Rachael wanted her viewers at home to be able to smell what the kitchen was cookinggg.  When I was starvin’ on a college budget, boy-oh-boy did I ever agree.

The prompt for Wednesday’s 5 for 5 theme at Momalom was Pictures, which in some odd way reminded me of the hours that I spent watching Rachael Ray.  This is because, like the desire for a Smell-O-Vision, I also think that there is a strong need for a Sound-O-Picture — or the ability to hear memory-filled sounds that the picture was capturing.

I realize that this is what video cameras are all about.  I get it, people.  But, what I am imagining are a few snippets of noise – the birthday song, the waves crashing in the background, the uncontrollable laughter – that take you back to the moment.

After all, they say a picture is worth a thousand words.  But, I think that most boil down to just one: LIFE.  And, the life that I’ve come to know, the one that I love, is full of the living, the breathing, the laughing, the simple beautiful sounds that make this world go round.  Wouldn’t it be nice to capture those with just one picture?

Rapping With Words: Hometown Friends

Today’s theme for 5 for 5 over at Momalom is Words anddd it’s a joint link up with Just Write so I figured that this was as good a time as any to write a rap song.   Right??  Let’s do this, people.

Song: Hometown Friends
Featuring: C-Scrilla (My rap name would be C-Money but obviously Scrilla is the street word for Money.. get with the times, folks).

*Woop!* I got love for this land
The people who will stand
Up for my beliefs firsthand
Even if they’re bland

I’ve known you for years *C-Scrilla!*
Through all the laughs and the tears
You help me fight through my fears
Over the course of two beers

I haven’t seen you in a while
But when I do
I know you’ll make me smile
*Hey Girl Hey!*

You’ll say the right words
That keep me pointing towards
The path that makes me face forward

This life is about connections *Yayo!*
I understand my blessing
I’ve received the message that your sending
That we’ll be friends until the ending

*These are the random words that are shouted in the background of the rap song. ;)
