5 Reasons for Why I Want To Be My Brother

Last week, one of the prompts at MamaKat’s Writer’s Workshop was: If you could magically become any member of your family for just one day, who would you become?  I found the prompt so fitting that I decided to write about it this week.  For more stories, visit MamaKat!

******************************************************************************************************************

look at that stud.  who wouldn’t want to be him?!

My brother is a rad dude.  If he ever heard me say that, he’d probably say I’m crazy.  But, no really, he is.

Even more importantly, my brother has a rad career.  He recently graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in Hospitality Management.  Think hotels and restaurants, people.  And, really, let me just translate that for you… my brother could work at an island resort for the rest of his life and call it a career.  I’m not talking any resort; I’m talking the ones where they serve umbrellas in your drink and ask if you’d like another towel to prop up your knees on that $100 beach chair you’re laying on.  See what I’m talking about.

Which leads me to…

Reason #1 I want to be my brother:  He accepted a position in the British Virgin Islands!!!

Would you like to look at that view every day??!! He gets to do that.  Seriously!!! EVERY DAY!!

Do I need to give you any more reasons that I want to be my brother??!!

This post is over.

Just kidding.

Reason #2 I want to be my brother: Memories of Australia

If BVI wasn’t enough for you, get this.  My brother spent an entire semester in Australia. AN ENTIRE 3 MONTHS IN AUSTRALIA.  Do you want to know where?  He spent an ENTIRE 3 MONTHS in MANLY, Australia.

Besides Manly being the raddest name ever, guess what Manly is.  Oh… it’s an ISLAND off of Sydney.  A f’ing ISLAND, people!! Who is this person?

dance charity auction thing in Australia.  We’re not sure what happened here…

My brother is the second one in from the left.. yelling the loudest. ;-)

I seriously don’t think that I need to go on.

Oh, but I am.

Reason #3 I want to be my brother: He is a boy

My brother is a boy.  Guess what that means??!  He can shower, get dressed and be ready for a formal dinner in FIVE MINUTES.  Five minutes, people.  The only thing that he needs to worry about is falling asleep in the bath tub.  Which he did once…

Anyways… the other leniency that being a boy provides is…

Reason #4 I want to be my brother: He doesn’t have to think about giving birth

Sorry.  I had to go there.  The process literally terrifies me.  There is a possibility that this might never happen to me, but, seriously, how cool would it be to be my brother??!  He wouldn’t have to think about it!  Ever!!

Reason #5 I want to be my brother: He has a big heart

Yeah, I know.  I had to get all sentimental on you.  But, really, my brother has the biggest heart.  Perhaps even the biggest out of the three of us (my brother, sister and I).  My sister has a big heart, but she is also crazy.  Like competed in three high school sports, student council vice president, homecoming court, going to save the world crazy.  And, let’s just say I can be a little bit b*tchy.

My brother, on the other hand, is calm, cool and collected.  All the time.  He truly lives his life by the Australian motto.. “No worries, mate.”  He doesn’t just want the world to be full of good.  He is the good.  Always lending a helping hand whether it is with our elderly (e.g. my late great grandmother) or a newborn child.  He has a way of setting things at ease.

Before my brother left for Australia, he spent the summer in Indiana at an internship.  When we threw a 25th wedding anniversary party for my parents, my brother came home to surprise them.  My mom cried.  Cried!! Do you want to know how many times my mom has cried when I came home? Zero…

She is probably even crying right now, and hopefully that made her chuckle.

Oh.. and my brother looks adorable holding a baby.

The End.
